In a group of 3, I produced a short surrealist film in order to explore different genres of cinema to help us use surrealism if we needed it in our final piece. We decided to base ours on a David Lynch type style, in order to grasp a true surreal feel. We worked well together and all agreed that surrealist film was actually pretty hard to do - expressionist film takes a lot of mental planning and good ideas.
This workshop was a lot different to the others due to the amount of pre-production we needed to do before we went out and filmed - we needed to come up with expressive ideas hard and fast in order to get everything done in time. This wasn't really a problem though, as I had thought about this before hand.
It came out well, and I'm definitely happy that we got to do this, as art house film is by far my favourite. Due to the fact that my piece is surreal based, I gained skills in planning from this workshop which really helped with the overall unit.
